INTEGRATED THINKING STRATEGY (ITS)

Integrated Thinking Strategy (ITS) is a problem solving methodology which developed from research financed by the U.S Military. They were interested in trying to computerise or aid decision making and problem solving and wanted to disprove that good decision makers or problem solvers were born, not trained. They reasoned that you could study people identified as outstanding decision makers or problem solvers, document how they processed information, and then write a computer program to aid in these processes. A major research company undertook the project, studying hundreds of people within the military and private sector. While rarely did any of their subjects process information the same way, there was a set of common practices that, as a group, they used to make decisions or solve problems.

When they made these common processing steps visible and fed them back to the study subjects, the subjects were actually able to improve their already highly respected decision making and problem solving skills. This original research, which is now publicly available, focused on individual skills and was skewed more towards complex problems and decisions.

The Pragmatic Improvement program has evolved radically from the original research. It has been greatly simplified so it can be used for problems and decisions faced on a day-to-day basis, however it retains the logic and rigour of the original research.

Integrated Thinking Strategy (ITS) works across functions, employee levels, and cultural and geographic boundaries, enabling organisations to achieve their business objectives. This methodology can be customised, either individually or in combination with Six Sigma and Lean, to meet specific organisational needs.

Pragmatic Improvement uses Integrated Thinking Strategy (ITS) to achieve productivity improvements - honing the thinking capabilities of all employees to improve operational performance.
